New Sure Start Nursery, Woodland Corner
The project consisted of the demolition of an existing temporary classroom building and the construction of a new 130m2 pre-school nursery within the playground of the existing primary school.
The building consists of a cedar clad timber frame, with a zinc roof and partial wall cladding. Access to the site was via a shared private driveway, therefore, close liaison with the neighbours was vital in order to ensure successful delivery of the project by the agreed completion date. Following our successful tender, it was apparent that the cost of the project was significantly over the available funding. Using our experience of cost planning, we were able to propose changes to the scheme which reduced costs by some £52,000, or 17% of the original tender, but with no detriment to the quality or amenity of the scheme. These proposed changes from the scheme devised by the clients architect included the following: – change from ground source heat pump to air source heat pump; reconfigure the access to the site; alternative glazing supplier.
